Mcleodganj – Thrilling 3N/4D

Mcleodganj is a beautiful place and a home to the Tibetan Spiritual Leader DALAI LAMA. Mcleodganj is situated in Himachal Pradesh. There is a direct flight to Dharamshala, from there one has to take a cab which will take 1 hour. Another way is via rail the nearest railway station is Pathankot from there its 90kms. One can take a bus or a taxi depending upon the budget.

DAY 1

We were a group of 4 people and hired a cab to reach Mcleodganj which took around 12 hours. On our way to Mcleodganj, we only stopped once (to save on time). We started at 5am in the morning and reached around 5pm in the evening. The scenic beauty was breathtaking. I genuinely didn’t expect this. The view was very peaceful, the majestic mountains, lush rich greenery greeted me to enjoy the beauty.

Our hotel was around 3 km away from the mall road which I felt was a good decision because we were away from the rush and got a great deal as well. The room was quiet big and we all could accommodate easily without any adjustment.

In the evening we decided to check out the mall road and fix our itinerary for the next day. At the mall road there were lot of local restaurants with great food and different kinds of tea and of course liquor. So if you are a foodie do visit local café and enjoy the lip smacking local food. Must visit: Labooze Café Bar Lounge, Shiva café, Moonpeak Espresso.

DAY 2

We all decided to go to Triund for a trek and few other places. We had our breakfast in the hotel and after that we started for ST. JOHN’S CHURCH. The structure is very powerful and there is something very catchy about it.

From there we reached the starting point of Triund I.e. Gallu Devi temple one can even walk down to Gallu Devi temple (which is going to take a lot of time) or can take a cab/taxi/auto. From here the real trek starts. It can take around 3 to 6 hours depending upon person to person. There were plenty of tea stalls all along the trail with light refreshments. The trek is steep, there was snow all around and it was extremely cold, 2 of my friends stayed at gallu Devi temple itself and another friend continued, but he stopped half way and decided to wait for me.

Do carry your trekking shoes

I didn’t carry my trekking shoe which I will advise everyone to carry whenever u travel to a hill station. I was in my normal high boots. The view was mind boggling and gave me goosebumps there was snow everywhere I could see. It was one of the most beautiful and serene view on earth.

I was thrilled to go ahead till the peak point but it started snowing and the locals suggested me to turn back or else I may have to spend a night there itself, because of snow I won’t be able to come back I was only 100 meters away from the destination, I was all alone and had no idea what’s going to happen after (there was no network in the phone) so I had to stop my journey there with a promise that I will come back again. The experience was magical have no words to express. One can check with the local travel agencies for trek cost for hiking and camping.

Please wear warm clothes with proper shoes carry some snacks and drink adequate water. From there we went back to the mall road. I was freezing in cold but the experience I had was enough for me to take with me to Delhi. Now time for some shopping…. the day got over but the memories remained in my heart

Mcleodganj

DAY 3

The final day of our trip at Mcleodganj. We went to Bhagsunath temple and Bhagsu fall. The temple is also a major tourist attraction. The Bhagsu waterfall is a tourist attraction and a picnic spot. There are many cafes around which serves hot light refreshments. Water of the fall is very cold. One can even take a dip but we restricted ourselves as it was chilling. The waterfall is also amazing. The trek to the waterfall itself gives an unparalleled experience.

Mcleodganj

Last stop at Mcleodganj

The last stop was Tsuglagkhang, it is the place where the Dalai Lama resides. It is also a very holy place people from all across the world to visit this place. It has a monastery, a library and temples. My trip ended there, but my heart remained in Mcleodganj and I decided next time I will come for more days and cover the adjoining locations as well like Dharamkot, Minkiani pass, Dal Lake and many more places.

Sometimes there are few places which are never in your list, but once you arrive there, it seems like you have returned home. I look at mountains and I thank god for giving us such a beautiful thing. I share a deep connection with sea, mountains, nature because it makes me forget who I am. Travel is also the best way to find yourself.
