Netflix’s, Amar Singh Chamkila, is a streaming documentary that delves into the life and times of the well-known Punjabi musician. Diljit Dosanjh plays the lead part, while Parineeti Chopra plays his wife, Amarjot. Imtiaz Ali is the director of this captivating movie. The film is based on the true life of Amar Singh Chamkila, a Punjabi artist known for his clever, sardonic lyrics about love with dual meanings, which earned him both adoration and hate. Despite his rise to fame and respect, he faced criticism for his double meaning songs. His wife, Amarjot Kaur, will sing along with him as his co-singer. A compelling true narrative
It was time to share the story of one of Punjab’s most famous and well-known singers, referred to as the Elvis of Punjab. Even though some people called Chamkila’s lyrics and compositions disgusting, he nevertheless went on to make a sensation with them. People were rumoured to pick wedding dates before finding out if Chamkila would be able to sing at the event. Shot dead at the young age of 27, Chamkila left behind a musical legacy that still has an impact on musicians in Punjab and beyond, along with his singer-wife Amarjot.

The performances
Diljit Dosanjh was the star of the film; however, we can’t overlook Parineeti Chopra’s portrayal of Amarjot Kaur entirely. Together, they look fantastic on screen. Parineeti and Diljit have a lovely connection together. Their appearances are also so similar to the couple that you can see how much care the filmmakers took in choosing Parineeti’s clothing and how she drapes her dupatta when you compare the real couple to the one on screen.
Amar Singh Chamkila’s killer?
When the couple arrived to play at Mehsampur, Punjab, on March 8, 1988, Amarjot and Chamkila were shot and killed. A group of bikers opened fire as the couple and the other members of their entourage got out of their cars, killing them both. The incident happened around 2 p.m. Although it is astonishing that no one was ever arrested in connection with the killing, it is being alleged that Sikh extremists are the reason for Amar Singh Chamkila’s tragic death. Swarn Sivia, his close friend and lyricist, countered that this was untrue, pointing out that they had met with the militants to offer an apology and a commitment to alter the songs’ ideas. As of right now, the case is still open.
