Bollywood star Naga Chaitanya makes her OTT debut in Dhootha. The series, which is currently available for streaming in multiple languages, was created and directed by Vikram K. Kumar.

As truth, impartiality, and accuracy—the fundamental principles of the media—are undermined by greed, power lust, and dishonesty, Naga Chaitanya’s Dhooth serves as a chilling mirror, encouraging reflection on the ethics of journalism. This supernatural horror web series uncovers an awful storyline that raises questions about the wicked forces undermining the ethics of journalism.

Narrative:

Esteemed and well-connected journalist Sagar (Naga Chaitanya) takes over as chief editor of the famous Samacharam daily. Priya (Priya Bhavani Shanker), his wife and accomplished journalist, their daughter Anjali, and their cherished dog form a close-knit family.

But then their lives take a completely different turn when their pet dies in a horrific accident that was caused by a premonitory newspaper clipping that captured all the specifics of the tragedy. This incident exposes a pervasive power that targets unethical journalists and is causing agony to Sagar’s entire family. It also signals the start of a series of frightening warnings that portend future events. Officer Kranthi Shenoy (Parvathy Thiruvothu), a Police Investigating Officer, becomes involved when Sagar puts himself under suspicion.

Throughout the narrative, Sagar discloses a potentially interesting past but it’s unclear how he’s tied to the unseen power.

What works in the Amazon prime web series -Dhootha

It’s obvious that Dhootha offers a wholly original interpretation of the supernatural horror subgenre. A hearty round of admiration is also due to Vikram K. Kumar and his writing team for convincingly believable storyline annoyances that keep you interested throughout. The conflict between ethics and morality and the world of journalism serves as the backdrop for the story, and Poorna Prajna, K S Sripal Reddy, and Naveen George Thomas, Vikram’s writing team, win hearts with their unwavering commitment to telling the whole story.

Furthermore, the story’s makers believe it has a great deal of social significance. In a literal sense, the medium conveys the message to the audience as the “dhootha.”

Some of the characteristics about this supernatural suspense thriller are quite promising: Naga Chaitanya Akkineni fits into this brilliantly constructed plot like a jigsaw puzzle. Although the idea is rather old, it comes off as so novel that it’s the first time it’s been seen in ages. The soundtrack blends in flawlessly with the concept and the episodes while being ominous, gloomy, and repetitive.

The story of Dhootha is plot-focused even though it deviates slightly from the main theme due to an adulterous affair and a few other needless distractions.

Venkat’s action choreography is another excellent aspect of this series. The murders are all so well-executed and dramatic that they pique curiosity rather than frighten or appal people.

What did not work in the web series

The flashback sequences had no effect. This is when the series loses its power; the sequences in these flashback sections should have been done better.

Dhootha’s playtime may have been shortened for greater impact as well. in particular, the mid-episode tempo slowdown. There are a few profanity-filled terms throughout the series, which can offend some viewers. A few more unnecessary diversions, along with an extramarital affair, cause the plot to stray slightly from its central theme.

The number of episodes in Dhootha is the main flaw of the series. Each of the eight episodes of the series lasts for around forty minutes. At times during the series, though, it seemed as though the sequences were prolonged in order to reach the 40-minute mark.

A significant shortcoming was the decline in speech and acting quality, which occasionally gave the impression that the actors were in a play. In other situations, the creators have also stated the obvious, which tends to take away from the excitement of viewing the show. There are a few situations when it’s clear that certain horror clichés were used. It detracts nothing from the series overall and acts like an itch, albeit a very fleeting one.

The lighting in the first few episodes of the show appears to be quite poor, and it is easy to identify where the lights are coming from.

Furthermore, the series’ soundtrack appears to be giving the audience cues on what to think and feel. The music was sometimes reminiscent of soap operas and sometimes overshadowed the pictures instead of enhancing them.

The series moves slowly even though it’s a gripping suspense thriller with a masterfully integrated supernatural element. Even so, everything moves far too slow.

The Dhootha performances

The performances of Priya Bhavani Shankar, Prachi Desai, and Parvathy Thiruvothu steal the show. As an audience, we witnessed an unprecedented aspect of Naga Chaitanya that was incredibly captivating, thanks to Dhootha. But in other instances, it seemed like his performance was more suited for the theatre; this criticism also applies to Pasupathy’s part in the series. Pasupathy, who has a major part in the series, does a fantastic job in it. Notwithstanding these minor glitches, Dhootha’s compelling tale and outstanding performances serve as the movie’s main draws.

Dhootha: The Conclusion

Dhootha is unquestionably a welcome addition to the genres of supernatural horror. The show presents a wholly original blend of paranormal and real-world aspects, which has hardly been seen before. The show has a few minor hiccups here and there, but they don’t take away from the whole experience. All things considered, Naga Chaitanya’s short film debut is very incredible and well worth seeing.

All things considered, Dhootha is an excellent film that will keep you riveted until the very end to uncover the mystery—which may or may not have been stunning or unexpected. However, the manner everything transpires is what really steals the show.

Despite being let down by his last film, Vikram K Kumar makes up for it with Dhootha. Although the premise is straightforward, the director has added layers to tell the story in a compelling way. There’s also a message of hope for society.
