All it takes to lift your spirits is a good laugh. Indian TV has produced numerous clever/shrewd  comedy TV shows that combine social commentary, clever humour, and slapstick comedy into one cohesive whole and serve it to us. The shows that stay in our hearts today are the ones that have brought us hours of pure laughter and joy.

I was recalling all the wonderful comedy TV shows that aired in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Because of the simple and relatable plot, as well as the overall genius of the era, that was a truly wonderful moment. We also planned our days around the times when our favourite comedy TV shows aired during that time of day.

We used to watch TV way too seriously back then, which may have contributed to the thoughtful and satisfying content. For a taste of desi humour, I tend to turn to TV episodes from that era because, let us face it, Indian comedy now airing on TV is terrible.

Look at the top 12 comedy TV shows ever on Indian TV, which still dominate the country’s comedy landscape.

1.Flop Show

Even though comedy is the most challenging genre to grasp, satire is the hardest to acquire.

In Flop Show, Jaspal Bhatti and his team of comedians presented a light-hearted commentary on the social problems of the day, which made it impossible to watch without laughing! It is still regarded as one of the top comedy TV shows.

2. Shrimati Shrimaan

You cannot forget Prema Shalini, the movie star of Shriman Shrimati, if you were a fan of 1990s comedy TV shows. This show effectively illustrates the fundamental idea of “loving your neighbor’s wife.”

Even though she is now known as Bollywood’s fav maa ji, Reema Lagoo used to make us laugh with her fantastic comic performances.

3. Zabaan Sambhalke

The amusing chaos in adult Hindi classes served as the inspiration for the Hindi version of the British sitcom Mind Your Language, Zabaan Sambhalke.

Beyond India’s national boundaries, the show portrayed diversity. When his multilingual students ask him weird questions, Pankaj Kapoor’s character, a former engineer who now teaches Hindi, always has a witty answer.

4. Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai

The 2005 sitcom Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai is set in a typical upper-class Mumbai family. The fictional Gujarati family, the Sarabhais, who are portrayed as typical members of Mumbai’s wealthy socialite class, are the focus of the show.

One of the top comedy TV shows is Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai. It is an excellent vintage that only grows better with age. It offered us a genuinely exceptional presentation by guiding us through the lives of a high-class family in Bombay through satire, dry humour, and great performances. In addition, the characters occasionally throw accidental barbs at one another.

Dekh Bhai Dekh was one of those amazing comedy tv shows of 1990’s with a great cast that captured the complexities of every joint family. The Diwan family attained the highest level of popularity on Indian television.

You continue to fall in love with the show with every new episode.

6. Yes Boss

Rakesh Bedi and Kavita Kapoor, who are married and work in the same office, are the stars of the show. Their boss, Aashif Sheikh, who never misses a chance to flirt with Kavita, is unaware of their relationship. Rakesh despises it and spends most of his time defending his wife from Aashif.

7. Tu Tu Main Main

Before Ekta Kapoor started the series of twisted saas-bahu relationships, Reema Lagoo and Supriya Pilgaonkar gave us a humorous viewpoint on the customary banter between a saas and her bahu.

This show, a light comedy that made it difficult for us to take sides, was just what we needed to brighten our day.

8. Hum Paanch

The protagonist of Hum Paanch is Anand Mathur, a white-collar middle-class man who often gets into difficulty due to his 5 daughters, Meenakshi, Radhika, Sweety, Kajal, and Chhoti. The three older girls belong to Anand and his first wife. The last two are Bina and Anand’s daughters.  The five girls are up to something new in each episode.

9. Family No. 1

Two single parents and their respective children share a house with a proper LOC in place.

The constant bickering and parent-child mocking between the two families was all it took to for us to crack up.

10. Filmi Chakkar

Satish Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah portrayed the Bollywood-obsessed couple in Filmi Chakkar before playing the flashy couple in Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai.

As individuals whose lives revolve around Bollywood, Filmi Chakkar was something to which we could all relate.

11. Office Office

One of the most popular comedy TV shows of the 1990s, Office Office, had a big impact on us. Mussadilal was basically all of us negotiating with a dishonest government office.

You all felt sorry for Pankaj Kapoor each time he arrived at a job site and learned there was no way out. The dishonest bureaucrats persisted in making hilarious fun of reality.

12. Khichdi

Khichdi narrates the story of the Parekh family, a Gujarati family that resides in a lavish mansion. It is without a doubt one of the best comedy TV shows made in India over the past 20 years. The annoying comedy used vocabulary and wordplay to make you laugh instead of just make faces.
