Shraddha Walkar, 26, was brutally murdered on Saturday, November 12 and Aftab Amin Poonawalla was taken into custody by the Delhi police. The accused murdered Shraddha and cut the body into 35 pieces and dumped them in 18 different locations.
Police claimed he created a trail of bank transactions and Instagram discussions to suggest she had departed on her own, but the trail really led to him.
Aftab Amin Poonawalla was initially called in for interrogation on October 26 following Shraddha Walkar’s father’s police report in Vasai, close to Mumbai, last month. She had left their rented apartment in Chhatarpur, in Delhi’s Mehrauli neighbourhood, after an argument on May 22, he told the police. It was then determined that he had already murdered her four days earlier i.e. 18th May. They had just moved to Delhi two weeks prior to the murder.

What led to Shraddha Wakkar’s murder?
After a heated disagreement over marriage on May 18, Aftab strangled Shraddha to death. He then bought a refrigerator, cut her body into 35 pieces, and stored them inside.
He eventually dispersed them over the course of 18 days all throughout the city. Aftab Amin Poonawala used to leave his house around 2 a.m. every night to dispose of some body parts in the Chhattarpur forest. Poonawala allegedly used the woman’s social media accounts to communicate with her friends for a few weeks after the murder in order to avoid drawing attention to himself. The accused was able to locate 13 body pieces after identifying the locations where he had thrown them, but only after their forensic analysis can it be determined whether or not they belong to the victim. The murderous weapon has not yet been located.
In his confession, Aftab Amin Poonawalla said,
Prior to Shraddha’s murder on May 18, 2022, more than a week earlier, I had already made the decision to kill her. We quarreled even that day. But just as I was about to kill her, she broke down in tears due to emotion, so “I decided to kill her later” Aftab confessed, according to ANI, which quoted a Delhi Police source.
As per Aftab Amin Poonawalla, Shraddha had trust issues and would frequently become irate and argue with him. She would become angry because I had to speak to someone on the phone so frequently. According to reports, the Delhi Police brought Aftab to his flat to recreate the crime scene in order to determine how Shraddha was killed.
According to ANI, police believe that accused Aftab would turn on the shower after cutting Shraddha’s body into 35 pieces in the bathroom so that the blood would run into the sewer and make it easier for him to do so.
Aftab Amin Poonawalla admitted that, after killing Shraddha, he spent the entire night searching Google. He looked for many ways to get rid of the body that would not attract attention or get him caught. Even after killing Shraddha, he continued to edit her Instagram account “to keep her alive in the eyes of her family and friends.” Up until June, he continued to use the Instagram account.
After killing her girlfriend, Aftab continued to date.
According to the article, Aftab set up the dating app Bumble. He got in touch with another woman who worked as a psychologist through the dating app. According to information given by Indian Express, Bumble is the same dating service where he first met Shraddha in 2019.
According to the report, Aftab made contact with another woman using a dating app, and she paid him a few visits at home in June and July. While Aftab welcomed the new woman at his apartment, Shraddha’s body parts were still in the fridge and the kitchen.
