This special chit chat with Sandeep Gupta, will motivate you to get off your feet and mark your prints on the running ground:

1. How long you have been running?

I am into Running since February 2017. I used to gym before that, but in February 2017 I did my first Road Run. It was also my first timed 10 Km distance. The finish line feeling was amazing and wonderful. Since then there was no looking back.

2. What motivated you to run?

It was luck by chance purely. I got to know about Hiranandani Thane Half Marathon and my gym buddy asked me to join him. Earlier, I was running on the treadmill for 30 min’s every day, but this time I registered and completed my first official road run. I don’t even have words to express how I felt?

3. Why do you enjoy running?

I feel powerful when I run. Every time I achieve my set target it gives me immense happiness. I enjoy training and beating my own timings in all the race formats 10km, 21.1km and 42.2 Km. That keeps me going and motivated.

4. What is that you don’t like about running?

Frankly, there is nothing I loathe about running or you can, I’m yet to figure that out if there’s anything.

5. How do you take care of the injuries?

Luckily I never had to face any Running related injury due to my disciplined approach towards Running. I never over train myself and always set a realistic target. People get injured only when they expect their body to over deliver.

6. What you eat and your daily diet?

I’m not very diet conscious, but I avoid overeating. I prefer to eat small meals at regular intervals which peps up my metabolic rate. Eggs, Salads and Fruits are an essential part of my daily diet routine.

7. Your best experience in running till date?

For most of us it has to be a Tata Mumbai Marathon. I ran my first TMM Half Marathon in 2018 and that’s still a memorable one. As we say, the first one’s are always special. Apart from that, I really enjoyed Running IDBI Delhi Marathon 2020 where I did my first Time Targeted Marathon distance and finished in 03:26 hrs. The reason behind it being my favorite event is, it was a well-planned and perfectly executed. It was an even paced run (Controlled Run) throughout and that what I enjoyed the most.

8. Any Tips for beginners?

  • Get yourself a Running Coach who can help you achieve your desired results and make sure that you do not harm yourself in the process
  • Take one step at a time. Do not target too much too soon.
  • Set Realistic Goals.
  • Injuries are bad for body, really bad. Don’t over train yourself.

9. How do you unwind?

Sleep Sleep Sleep. It’s the best recovery for your body as it replenishes energy and boosts muscle recovery.
