The memes are considered to be the newest and trendiest statement expression for Millennials. Initially it was termed as pure entertainment through edgy one liners but today it has turned out to be a strong, persuasive and provocation mode of voicing. One can also monologue it as an innovative social media language. Most of the time the contents are hilarious or stimulating still pictures or GIFs with a title or videos, they get viral within no time, through online platform. It was considered to be underestimated creation of the digital period but with a few adroit knocks, it got the attention of normal Indian inkling to constitutional, societal and racial subjects, while chuckling at the ludicrousness of life of the citizens.

The availability of internet has transformed everyone’s lives, thanks to providers like Reliance Jio, internet was never so inexpensive. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a statement on “Being Aatmanirbhar” made the netizens unwrap their imagination. As an outcome, social media is overflowing with Aatmanirbhar memes and trolls circulating all over the globe and his gesture to make the citizen of India self-reliant has been distorted and his image has been maligned. Although there was absence of meme content in the speech but, but internauts took the word “Aatmanirbar” and overhauled the internet with plethora of memes, jokes and GIFs. Memes like, “Nobody understands Aatmanirbharta better than single persons”. Twitter users caught the agony and sentiments perfectly. The memes in the form of a hilarious image, text message, video is circulated on the social media and going viral.

In the recent past, AIB – All India Bakchod, India’s most famous comedy group was booked by the Mumbai Police Cyber Cell for sharing a meme of PM Modi with Snapchat puppy filter. The FIR was done on the basis of offensive and defaming the Prime Minister of India. The dawn of social media in the nation has highlighted the inconsiderate and thick skinned side of the society. Social Media has been tainted and abused to the core, because of such jokes either on the PM or on the country or the culture or the Coronavirus has become a matter of mockery internationally. The jokes or memes are shared in huge bulk, it is practically impossible to keep a track on number of memes being made and circulated in a day.

The amusing or sardonic depiction of social concerns, the memes have arisen as an ambassador of black comedy and undetectable digital reprisal that can be circulated within seconds and has a potential to cause permanent damage to the country.

Do you really think everything is funny?

Absurd images on politics, depicting a poor guy hooked to drugs, killing animals buy tying bombs, homophobia, Celebes kids – showing atrocious, harmful and oblivious content for mere fun without any cause or a happening gives kick to the netizens. May be for millennials it is a way to deliver a strong evaluation of the times we are living in today, but it is venomous, lethal and spreads disharmony across the globe. India’s image has been dented severely by a such act of ridicule and scorn.

The memes or jokes or GIFs are not just restricted to circulate within the country, it gets spread to various other nations. This would project the bad image of the country as people would make judgement and opinions based on the farce and travesty of such memes. Each and every Indian is responsible for this sham; from people who are making such meme’s or the one’s who are forwarding it or the one who is reading it. The whole world has conceded the effort of India in present pandemic outbreak, it’s high time we play our part and stop defaming our own nation by cutting the chain of such imprudent and misguided memes or jokes.
