death

Life is unpredictable; in April the country mourned the death of two legendaries Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan. No one can procrastinate or know when they are going to die. Many people are ignorant of the fact, that, no one lives forever. Although it might not be as amusing as arranging your next vacation, there are few indispensable things to do before you die that are useful, practical, vital, and will help you and your family handle after your death. There is no assurance of tomorrow therefore to avoid additional stress during an already sensitive time, it important to focus on three things before you die.

1.Write a will

Death can knock our door anytime therefore writing a will is perhaps one of the most essential part one can’t ignore. You can legally protect your family, children, spouse and can also distribute your wealth in a planned manner. A will is a legal document that lets you decide how you would like your assets/ property to be taken care of when you die and who will be accountable for the care of your minor children. The realization of the fact that making a will is an integral part of life comes too late. In case of a sudden death builds up an additional stress on the family during an already sensitive phase.

If you die without a valid will in place, your property or asset may not be distributed as per your willingness and your family has to suffer heavily because of the interference of the unwanted relatives fighting over the ownership of your assets. A will can include assets, properties, bank accounts, shares, bonds and many more.

2. Donate your organs

Pledging to donate your organs can save and transform many lives. The process is very simple. There is a need to fill the online pledge form and your will receive a donor card along with your unique government registration number. All the pledges are listed with NOTTO – National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization. The donor card doesn’t have any legal implication but it only shows your intent towards the good deed.

As per the Indian Law, once the pledger dies, it is the decision of the parents or husband or children whosoever is the immediate relative. A donation of the organ will not happen without the consent of the next to kin. Therefore, it is essential for a person to inform their family if they wish to donate their organs.

3. Discerning about your digital bequest

If you are internet savvy and are registered on several social media sites, you have plenty of usernames and passwords stored in your mind. Therefore, digital passwords become very important as there can be some fixed online subsidiaries you want to cancel or auto payment mode selected for your mobile or Wi-Fi bill.

Once the person dies it becomes difficult for the family to ascertain the passwords and close the account, if they aren’t aware of the password. One can use various password management software to keep all their passwords in one place or you can always write all your passwords along with the will.
