Sushmita’s comeback debut web series Arya, a nine-episode crime show, which started streaming on 19th June, 2020 on Hotstar, has been harvesting much applaud. The former Miss Universe started her career from the movie Dastak, directed by Mahesh Bhatt in the year 1996 and her last movie was Nirbaak which was released in 2015, but none of the movie gave her the opportunity to explore her potential and unrecognizable talent. But the Disney+ Hotstar criminal series changed the entire game for Sushmita Sen, it gave her 9 hours’ worth of the absolute attention of the audience.

Sushmita got the chance to squeeze out every bit of flair at her discarding and it turned out to be her best performance till date. She has depicted the role of Arya Sareen, a strong headed woman who is the wife of a drug dealer (Chandrachur Singh), takes the control of her family’s pharma business, opium estate and drug warehouse after he is killed in an attack.

Even the perfect family has flaws

As misfortune strikes, the ostensible character scuffles to ensure that her three children remain protected of the inevitable circumstance, bouts acumens with an anti-narcotics cop who is resolute to smash the cocaine smuggling scam and also commences a mission to discover her husband’s assassin. The actress was away from the limelight for quite sometime but with Arya, she has marked her niche. The show is directed by Ram Madhani and is an adaptation of Penoza, the dutch drama show. Sushmita’s transformation from a housewife who wears impeccable clothes, carries manicured hands, to a ferocious mother who gets enmeshed in her families’ gloomy business.  Arya, an emotional narrative prompts the phrase, “Even the perfect family has flaws”. The filth and muck under all the shimmer, happens in the perfect houses.

Arya – A must watch

Arya has everything, a caring spouse, luxury lifestyle and inseparable friends, but as we say life is a bitch, she had to brawl through the sludge of sludge of vehemence, extortion, deceits and betrayal to keep her children safe. Her character is robust, virtuous, sharp and grounded, which makes her stand out in the crowd. The show made her emotional and thoughtful on many events, which she recently shared on her Instagram handle, she wrote: “Tears keep rolling even when the camera stops!” Sushmita said no to many offers in the past, as she was looking for the right project to make her come back on the silver screen. She even shared her concern, that when you decline a lot of offers, people start isolating you and this delivers a negative impression.

Sushmita at her best

I was always an admirer of Sushmita Sen – the way she carries herself, her assertiveness, her interviews and body language make her appear like a very sorted person in her head and more than the actor her real life has intrigued my interest, but for the first time as an actor I have seen her like never before. What she has achieved in the Hotstar Crime Web series, that’s beyond imagination. She is the reason behind many single women adopting a child, as she adopted two girls, Renee and Alisah at the beginning of her career, which I doubt anybody would take such kind of a risk.

There was a challenge to shape a, stylish super fit, ultra-glamour’s Susmita Sen into a responsible wife and caring mother. She dealt with every emotion with extreme subtlety. So if you are still wondering whether to watch it or give it a miss… don’t give a second thought…. Watch it for Sushmita Sen… her real life strong character has got so beautifully deciphered in the series.
