The movie “83,” starring Ranveer Singh, is based on the epic tale of the Indian cricket team’s triumph at the 1983 Cricket World Cup. The movie was released in theatres on December 24, 2021, during the Christmas weekend.

Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev

Critics have praised Ranveer Singh for his portrayal of Kapil Dev in the film based on India’s victory in the 1983 World Cup. 83 is a life story based on Kapil Dev (Ranveer Singh), one of India’s most famous cricketers. The plot focuses on India’s great win in the Cricket World Cup (1983) under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. Before the filming started, Singh got special training from Kapil Dev. Veteran cricketers Balwinder Sandhu and Yashpal Sharma guided the star cast through a training camp at Dharamshala Cricket Stadium in Uttarakhand.

A film about that remarkable victory was in the pipeline, but the audience and the critics had serious doubts that Indian cinema would be able to do homage to the sport’s milestone. But filmmaker Kabir Khan made it happen and perfectly captured the team’s journey. An emotional sports biopic

The emotional gravitas of India’s win in the 1983 World Cup is brilliantly captured in Kabir Khan’s sports biography. The film is also exceptionally well-researched. Kabir Khan’s “83 perfectly re-creates that day, and, yes, let it be mentioned, in full Hindi cinema style, packed with song, dance, dhol, drama, firecrackers, and color.”

Ranvir Singh: The perfect choice

In this meticulous re-enactment of India’s 1983 World Cup victory, Ranveer Singh sinks into the character of Kapil Dev. We can safely assume that the actor has researched everything there is to learn about Kapil Dev and has made every effort to nail every aspect of the captain’s personality. There’s no doubt that Ranveer Singh’s core performance is what makes “83” the film it is. In fact, labeling it a performance would be incorrect. The lead actor embraces the role and, like Kapil Dev, takes charge.

Kabir Singh, the director of “83”

From the environment of the cricket match to the way the film’s triumph over the West Indies is shown, there are several aspects of the film that are worth mentioning. At several points throughout the film, each of us feels happy to be an Indian. Director Kabir Khan has worked tirelessly to bring all of the film’s characters to life. Whether it’s Kapil Dev’s role or Saqib Saleem as Amarnath, or Harry Sandhu as Madan Lal or Gavaskar (Tahir Basin), the director made sure that each cricketer’s characteristics were mirrored in the film.

The way the iconic events from Team India’s trip to the 1983 World Cup were portrayed in the film deserves special praise. They were expertly woven into the drama, passion, and feelings. The film’s writer and makers also deserve credit for effectively weaving it all together. Because the film is based on factual events, there is less room for creative freedom.

The film “83” is a stirring, heart-warming, spine-chilling cinematic storyline that captures all of the feelings, enthusiasm, and ecstasy that swept the country on June 25, 1983. India reached a unique cricket pinnacle when they successfully defended a modest 183 against the allegedly unbeatable West Indies.

Is an OTT release of the film on the way?

Fans who were unable to see the film in theatres have been wondering whether they would be able to watch it on OTT platforms such as Sony liv, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and several others.

Fans have been waiting for the reveal of the 83 movie’s OTT official release, but they will be dismayed to find that the film’s producers have yet to do so, nor have they indicated that the movie will be aired on Netflix. As a result, Netflix users will have to wait a bit longer to enjoy the film.
